Keeping your diet healthy during the IVF procedure

Couples who are set to undergo an IVF procedure have to prepare well, especially from their health and diet perspective. In order to have a safe and successful IVF treatment, it is important for couples to consume food items that strengthen their nutritional foundation. The diet consumed impacts the reproductive system in the form of egg quality, egg count, semen production, hormone production, fertility, uterine lining quality, etc. Thus, it is important to follow a healthy diet before and throughout the IVF procedure. Food Items best during IVF

For a successful IVF, it is essential for a female partner to have an anti-inflammatory diet. It is essential to cut down on sugar, fast foods and processed foods. One should consume clear proteins such as legumes, egg white, fish, fruits and vegetables, etc. Also, nuts, Omega 3 diet, whole grains, etc., help in strengthening the uterine lining. Apart from this, one should consult with the doctor at the best IVF centre in Delhi and accordingly include it in the diet chart. 

Different times for consuming food:

It is essential for couples to consume a balanced diet in a way that by the time they consume their dinner, they should have an adequate intake of nutrients. 

  • Breakfast:

This is the first meal of the day. So, a female partner should start with food that is light on the tummy. One can have a simple bread toast or a healthy avocado salad spread on a sub. Include items that have Vitamin K, E, C, folate, magnesium, riboflavin and zinc. Include egg (white) or paneer cubes which are healthy sources of protein. One can also consume fruits or milk to complete breakfast.

  • Mid-morning intake:

This is the time between Breakfast and Lunch. Usually, 2 hours after breakfast and 2 hours prior to lunch. Usually, mild hunger pangs start cropping up. So, rather than having a donut or a coffee, simply consume a glass of berries smoothie or have curd/yogurt. One can also have salad and include vegetables such as carrots, cucumber, tomato, etc. Avoid papaya before and during treatment. 

  • Lunch:

Lunch should be prepared thoughtfully. It should have the right balance of vegetables, whole wheat, curd, etc. Thus, one can have dal/pulses, seasonal vegetables, roti/chapati and steamed rice. Curd as per your dairy intake. 

  • Afternoon munchies/snacking:

The afternoon is the best time to relish fruit or nuts. One can mix fruits together. Do sprinkle flax seeds or sunflower seeds, or sesame seeds for an extra punch of health. 

  • Dinner:

Dinner is the last meal of the day. Thus, it should be light on the stomach to have a good sleep. A simple bowl of vegetable dalia, upma, rasam/sambhar, brown rice with a topping of grilled vegetables, etc., will be the right choice for dinner.
